Early in 2008, in collaboration with Dubois Naval Architects,
Oyster Marine the UK’s leading yacht builder and double
Queen’s award winner, announced two new superyacht models
to be added to the Oyster range, the Oyster 100 and the
Oyster 125. The choice of Dubois Naval Architects was no
accident, since Ed Dubois and his team have emerged as the
world’s leading designers of cruising yachts over 100 feet.
There are over 40 Dubois superyachts in commission and many
more in the process of design and under construction. Dubois’
progress over the past 30 years, has in many ways mirrored
that of Oyster’s 35 years of building some of the world’s
finest blue water cruising sailboats. Owners of the new
Oyster Superyachts can be confident that these yachts will
not only look fantastic, but will have great sailing performance.
Both the 100 and 125 will be built in modern composite materials
using the resin infusion system to ensure optimum strength
to weight ratios and then post cured to an oven temperature
of 100ºC to ensure overall laminate quality. Lloyds will
be auditing quality carefully and each vessel will be issued
with the appropriate classification. A very comprehensive
specification will be offered on both yachts, including
carbon spars, hydraulic winches, bow thrusters, twin generators
and a fully appointed interior designed and configured to
each owner’s requirements. Options will include a waterjet
tender stowed within a specially recessed pit in the vessel’s
foredeck and underwater lighting. The Oyster 100 and 125
will offer almost all the benefits of a commissioned one-off
but with predictable quality and sailing performance, less
risk and expense and, of course, Oyster’s renowned after
sales service and support.
Inspired by some of the larger Dubois designs, the Oyster
125 will also be offered with a cleverly designed, sleek
fly bridge that caps the deckhouse and will accommodate
twin wheels and power and sailing controls, while at the
same time providing a commanding view and a comfortable
seating and sun lounge area for guests. The fly bridge will
also provide an area of complete privacy when the yacht
is at rest.
